Local startup leaders discuss setbacks on the road to success

Bill Gates once said, “It’s fine to celebrate success but it is more important to heed the lessons of failure.” The Startup Horror Stories Halloween Event, hosted by Ward4 and MKE Tech Hub Coalition aims to help the Milwaukee startup ecosystem do just that- learn from failure.

The pathway to success is rarely a straight one, and few people understand that as well as those who have achieved success.

A group of Milwaukee’s most celebrated entrepreneurs have volunteered to share the tales of the professional setbacks they encountered while building their successful companies. Local experts from the insurance, environmental services, real estate, and the food and beverage industries representing both business-to-business and business-to-consumer models will take the stage at the event.

Speakers include Giacomo Fallucca, CEO of Palermo Pizza, Lincoln Fowler, one of the founders of Colectivo Coffee, Mike Malatesta, founder of Advanced Waste Services, Ray Seaver, CEO of zizzl and Kyle Weatherly, serial-entrepreneur, and co-founder of Frontdesk.

“Entrepreneurship can be a lonely journey,” Kathy Henrich, CEO of MKE Tech Hub Coalition, said. “It is critical to have a board of supporters who will lift you up and help guide you to the silver lining of setbacks.   That’s also why it’s important to hear the stories of other entrepreneurs.  Failures are part of the journey and often lead you to a better place.  By being transparent about both our successes and failures, it creates hope for others as they strive to build successful organizations.”

Startup founders and entrepreneurs from all industries are encouraged to attend this honest discussion about professional pitfalls, and how to overcome them. The free event will take place at Ward4 on Monday, October 30, beginning at 5:00 p.m. Complimentary wine and beer will be served.
