Nexion Solutions expands impact
Since launching in 2022, Nexion Solutions has quietly transformed how communities protect victims of violence.
Developed to support domestic violence survivors and high-risk witnesses, NightWatch is a discreet, GPS-enabled emergency response device that connects users directly to law enforcement. Unlike traditional 911 calls, NightWatch comes with built-in intelligence: operators have access to user-specific safety profiles, can track real-time GPS, and activate silent response modes in high-risk situations.
Founded by Liz Kohler, a veteran of wearable health technologies who lost her sister to domestic violence, the startup has grown from a local pilot project into a national safety tech provider—now with customers in five states and more on the horizon.
NightWatch was initially piloted through a partnership with Milwaukee’s Sojourner Family Peace Center and the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office. The pilot outcomes were striking: 97% of participants reported feeling safer, 100% showed reduced PTSD symptoms, and no participants were killed by their abuser during the study period. In several cases, the device helped foil abductions and facilitate arrests.
Since the pilot, Nexion has steadily grown. The company now counts six Wisconsin-based clients—including law enforcement agencies and domestic violence nonprofits—and has expanded to Oklahoma, New York, Texas, and Montana. Each new partnership has helped the company refine its device and approach.
In Oklahoma, for example, a donation from Panhandle Telephone Cooperative allowed Northwest Domestic Crisis Services (NWDCS) to launch a NightWatch program to protect survivors. The need is dire: Oklahoma has the highest domestic violence rates in the nation. “They know they can leave our shelter and go anywhere – and we are still able to protect them,” said Matthew Crook of NWDCS.
As the company prepares for a major product expansion this summer, Nexion Solutions continues to demonstrate how innovation, compassion, and partnerships can work together to create real safety for those who need it most.
