WEDC launches Ignite Wisconsin to strengthen startup ecosystems

The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation has launched Ignite Wisconsin, a new grant program aimed at boosting startup density and entrepreneurial collaboration across the state.

The initiative is designed to support consortia of partners that include entrepreneur support organizations, higher education institutions, investors, industry leaders, and community organizations. The goal is to create stronger, founder-focused ecosystems that combine technical assistance, capital, and strategic support.

Program funds may be used for entrepreneur support and technical assistance, direct business funding, programmatic and space support, and marketing or storytelling efforts. Eligible projects could include building incubators, expanding accelerator programs, or developing entrepreneur-in-residence initiatives.

WEDC plans to award four to six grants in the program’s first year, with funding amounts ranging from $200,000 to $2 million. A 10 percent funding match is required, either in cash or in-kind contributions, and preference will be given to applicants able to provide higher matches. The program has $3.5 million available in fiscal year 2026 and is expected to support projects lasting 12 to 36 months.

Applications are limited to Wisconsin-based nonprofit organizations that are part of a consortium. Consortia must demonstrate a clear organizational structure, governance plan, and measurable outcomes tied to strengthening the state’s startup activity.

WEDC recommends that interested applicants connect with an account manager in advance of the deadline to ensure project eligibility and receive feedback.

Applications are due Oct. 31, 2025.
