Amruth Group combats aging skin with science

With age comes wisdom, and a host of other benefits. Age also brings with it fine lines, wrinkles, and more telltale signs that time marches on. Nothing can prevent skin from aging, but local startup Amruth Group has created an anti-aging facial cream in its laboratory that does the next best thing.

The company’s innovation is centered around resveratrol, an organic compound found in red grapes. The compound is known to be anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antimicrobial, along with a number of health-promoting properties, including the stimulation of collagen production.

Resveratrol should be as common in over-the-counter anti-aging remedies as retinol and hyaluronic acid. But the beneficial compound breaks down when it is exposed to light and air, quickly turning it from an anti-aging powerhouse to an inert ingredient. Amruth Group has developed a patented solution to overcome resveratrol’s short shelf life and harness the power of the compound.

The company believes this innovation will disrupt the consumer cosmetic product industry because resveratrol has a similar impact on skin as retinol, but without the skin irritation, redness and flaking that are common side effects of retinol use.

This breakthrough was developed by co-founder and biopharmaceutical scientist, Dr. Abhay Chauhan. He created what the company calls a “bio-dendrimer,” that acts as a polymer which allows resveratrol to become soluble and retain its potency.

The company reports that initial consumer testing was successful.

After a 56-day test of 30 anti-aging facial cream users, 95% of the users reported softer skin, 90% indicated their skin felt more hydrated and 85% stated they had smoother skin.

“I’ve always been fascinated with new technologies, especially those that are targeted into the cosmetic space,” Jayson Kurfis, co-founder and company CTO said.

“I think what’s really important is that it’s a product that has the capability of providing a concentration of active ingredient to an area that will have the most benefit to the skin. From a consumer perspective, it provides a far more positive response…we can take a product where it’s going to do the most good and increase the positives of resveratrol while cutting back on the more negative aspects of materials,” he said.

Launched in 2019, the five-employee company is headquartered in the Technology Innovation Center at Milwaukee County Research Park. Amruth Group has received two grants from the Medical College of Wisconsin and an angel investment from CU Ventures, in addition to founder investments.  The company’s product is currently being manufactured in Illinois.

Serial entrepreneur and CEO Mike Reilly is actively seeking strategic partnerships for the emerging company.

“Our objective is to partner with a major cosmetic company that sees the value in this and knows how to sell it,” said Reilly. He also noted that the company is exploring other profitable uses for its proprietary polymer.

Ahead of a partnership, Amruth Group has decided to introduce its anti-aging facial cream to consumers itself. The innovative cream is now available on the Amazon Marketplace.
