Gesund Health Data brings AI-powered insights
When Scott Coller founded Gesund Health Data in 2023, he set out to tackle a growing problem in the insurance and healthcare industries: the overwhelming amount of electronic health data and its inconsistent interpretation.
Coller, a pharmacist-turned-data expert, spent a decade in life insurance underwriting, developing tools to analyze prescription histories and medical claims.
“Gesund Health Data is leveraging AI enablement to improve how underwriters assess risk. It’s taking a clinical approach to electronic health data to enable better artificial intelligence,” Coller said.
“What I’ve noticed with AI is that many companies are just throwing AI at the problem and hoping it works,” Coller continued. “But for rare and costly conditions, AI needs a more clinical approach to be truly effective.”
Gesund’s platform acts as a middleware solution, integrating with existing data sources to help underwriters make better-informed decisions. Rather than focusing on gathering more data, Coller’s technology enhances how that data is interpreted, breaking down silos between medical records, lab results, and claims data.
AI innovation through gBETA at WCTC
Coller’s startup is gaining momentum thanks to the seven-week gBETA accelerator program at Waukesha County Technical College’s Applied AI Lab. The gBETA program is run by venture capital firm gener8tor, which helps early-stage companies prepare for growth and potential investment by providing mentorship, coaching, and access to a network of investors.
“The gBETA program has been amazing,” Coller said. “The team brings so much energy, and it’s really accelerated my path to getting Gesund Health Data up and running.”
At the end of the gBETA program, participants will pitch their companies to investors, community partners, and the public at a showcase event on Wednesday, April 9.
Gesund Health Data is currently ramping up to launch a pilot program, aiming to secure partnerships with life insurance carriers and reinsurers. Coller’s long-term goal is to expand into healthcare, where his AI-driven data interpretation could streamline provider communication and improve patient outcomes.
“Healthcare needs AI solutions built with a clinical foundation,” Coller said. “Our goal is to make AI-powered insights more trustworthy and actionable.”
