Golgix uses AI to maximize manufacturing productivity

Milwaukee-based SaaS company Golgix made headlines in August 2023 after securing a $600,000 seed funding round led by Gateway Capital. Since then, the company has added to its roster of clients and is actively working on securing pilot programs with some of Milwaukee’s most recognized names in manufacturing.

Co-founder and Chief Marketing Officer Charlie Scott sat down with MKEStartup.News to explain how Golgix uses AI technology to help manufacturers maximize productivity while decreasing downtime. “I am hoping that we can be a part of making Milwaukee manufacturing more competitive,” he said.

According to the company, unplanned downtime costs manufacturers hundreds of production hours and approximately 6% of their annual revenue. CEO Nitin Ranjan stated, “while manufacturers have long considered unplanned downtime an unsolvable problem, AI has proven that it is predictable and preventable with existing plant data.”

Golgix technology decreases manufacturing downtime due to machinery problems by using AI to predict when malfunctions will happen and how to avoid them.

“Everybody knows that AI is real, and AI is all about productivity,” Scott said. “It works, but the question (clients have) is ‘will my data support this?’ I think most other AI companies, or predictive analytics companies in the industrial space, not just manufacturing, have a two-part business where they have an AI platform or AI software to do the analytics, but it’s powered by hardware that collects data that they can make sense of really easily.”

“Golgix is different because our software has two layers of AI,” he continued. “The first one figures out how to make sense of that data that you already have, and the second one is the predictive analytics on top.

The power behind Golgix’s AI-based SaaS solution is its strategic use of data.

“For a long time, manufacturers and people across industries thought that data was the answer,” Scott said. “People thought ‘we are going to get better through data.’ It turns out people just invested in meters and sensors creating more data, and all of a sudden, they’re buried in data, and they’ve buried the good data in the bad data. It is important to have that data, but now with our more lightweight analytics solutions we can get value out of that data.”

“Golgix technology has been built over the past three years, but founder Nitin Ranjan has been working in this industry for 20 years.

“What we’re finding in this industry is that artificial intelligence has no inherent value,” Scott said. “You need to point it towards the right problem and then you need to have really great technical knowledge of AI and predictive analytics, along with domain expertise that aligns with whatever problem you’re solving. That’s why some brainiac M.I. T. PhD students could not build what we built because they don’t have the 20 years of experience in manufacturing. We understand the problems and what data is relevant.”

According to Scott, a key part of the Golgix sales process is showing potential customers how its current data works in the product.

“To demonstrate that our solution works in their environment, we typically do what we call a ‘data value assessment.’ That means we meet with key stakeholders at the company to define the valuable, painful problems… then their technical team will give us the data that they have, and we run it through our solution. We have the historical data to contextualize into our pre-built models to their environment. So, by the time we get to contracting and deployment, our models are already trained for their environment,” he said.

Founded in 2021, Golgix has aggressive plans for growth in 2024 which include launching paid pilot programs in several new industries and adding additional employees to its team. To learn more about this emerging company in growth mode, connect with Golgix here.
