Tenuta Health introduces C.A.R.E. to help therapy practices thrive

After nearly a decade working in therapy practice operations, Milwaukee-area entrepreneur Joseph Tenuta has launched a new business designed to help independent clinicians navigate the complexities of healthcare billing, operations, and growth. His new venture, C.A.R.E. by Tenuta Health, is a managed service organization built to support speech, occupational, and physical therapy practices across the country.

Short for Claims, Accounts Receivable, and Education, C.A.R.E. goes far beyond traditional billing. The service provides end-to-end revenue cycle management paired with ongoing business education and personalized insights. Tenuta describes it as a way to bring transparency, efficiency, and peace of mind to providers who often feel stuck in a financial hamster wheel.

“There’s a race to the bottom in billing right now,” Tenuta said. “Everyone wants to do it cheaper, but nobody’s helping clinicians understand what their numbers mean or how to grow from them.”

Each client is paired with a dedicated hands-on partner who oversees revenue cycle functions and provides individualized guidance. Tenuta’s team handles everything from claim submission and payment posting to denial management, appeals, and patient statements. Clients receive a monthly scorecard summarizing key performance indicators, such as net revenue per visit, average units billed, and days in accounts receivable. Tenuta reviews these reports with each practice owner and helps identify areas of opportunity, from staffing efficiency to payer mix strategy.

The model was born out of Tenuta’s firsthand experience. Over the past decade, he has owned, operated, and sold therapy clinics, and has seen how easily strong clinicians can struggle when left to manage backend business functions alone. “They went to school for medicine, not business,” he said. “But healthcare is a business. If you’re not being reimbursed for your time, no one benefits.”

C.A.R.E. is designed to integrate seamlessly into a client’s existing workflow. Practices can continue using their current electronic health record systems; Tenuta’s team extracts and analyzes billing data after hours.

The company is currently operating in soft launch mode, with a full rollout expected in July. C.A.R.E. already has eight clients under contract in states ranging from Washington to Massachusetts. “Every Monday morning, I check in with them personally,” Tenuta said. “They’re not just customers, they’re partners. I want them to feel like they have someone in their corner.”

Tenuta’s long-term vision for the business includes building a predictive analytics platform using aggregated client data to recommend optimal CPT codes, estimate reimbursement, and help practices make smarter decisions.

In addition to launching Tenuta Health, Tenuta serves as a professor at Carthage College and is a co-founder of Hello, Audrey, a telehealth platform for speech therapy.

By focusing on the business side of care, C.A.R.E. aims to give therapists the time and tools to focus on what they do best. For Tenuta, it’s not just about better billing—it’s about building a better experience for clinicians and their patients.
