VC MKE, lead by Dana Guthrie of Gateway Capital, Ed Javier of Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation, Maggie Fernandes of We Pivot, Que Ei-Amin of Young Enterprising Society (YES), and Tarik Moody of 88Nine Milwaukee Radio, hosted its first event on June 28 at the law offices of Godfrey and Kahn .
The organization, created to connect underrepresented founders with venture capital for their emerging startups, offered an opportunity for select startup businesses to meet with investors. Mayor Cavalier Johnson welcomed the group to Milwaukee and pledged to continue his work to make the city among the most welcoming to new businesses in the nation.
Keynote speaker for the event was Troy Jones, of StatusPro, a company developing VR sports games. Jones, a former Division 1 quarterback, is the man at the helm of the company working with the NFL to allow fans to an opportunity to experience the game as a professional player.
